Ground-penetrating radar (GPR) is a geophysical method that works by sending a tiny pulse of energy into a material and recording the strength and the time required for the return of any reflected signal to image the subsurface.

It is used to define landfills, contaminant and for mapping archaeological features and law enforcement for locating graves and buried evidence. It is also used for detection of mines,  and tunnels.
